RONALD JOSEPH GANIM “MR G”: beloved husband, father, ‘giddo’, mentor, and coach, passed away in his Broadview Heights home on Sunday, December 10, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Joan (Puzder), daughter Maria Schneider (Bill), sons Greg (Carla) and Arthur “A.J.” (Lauren), grandsons Joey, Jimmy, Charlie, Blake, Paul and favorite granddaughter Maron. The son of Art (dec.) and Hazel (dec.) he was a loving brother to Gary (dec.) (Marla), and Kenneth (Shirley), devoted son-in-law to Martha Puzder, brother-in-law to Marlene Rockwell, (Jonathan), and cherished uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 20, 1945, Ron was a proud running back for his beloved Benedictine Tigers and got to play in the city championships in 1963. After a short collegiate football career, Ron met the two loves of his life, Joan and Gymnastics. Mr. and Mrs. G, both started teaching in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights school system and in 1975, they opened Gymnastics World. He retired from teaching high school health in 1994, yet he never stopped coaching and mentoring the athletes at Gymnastics World. In his career, Ron coached the BBHHS gymnastics team to 17 state championship titles, including an unprecedented 14 in a row. In addition to his high school successes, he coached hundreds of private club gymnasts to local, state, regional and even national championships. He is a member of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Gallery of Achievement, was honored as the 2007 National Gymnastics Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations and is the 2010 recipient of the OHSAA Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity Award by the Ohio High School Gymnastics Coaches Association. In 2015, he was named ‘Man of the Year’ by the Northern Ohio Lebanese American Association (NOLAA). He was a USA Gymnastics National Business Leader of the Year and was presented with the Sports Development Gold Medalist Award from the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission. For USAG, he served as both State Chairman and a National Safety Certifier. He was proud to contribute throughout his life as a drug counselor and intervention specialist. As a philanthropist, he worked with the Rex Fotos Cartwheel-a-thon, raised just under a quarter of a million dollars for Children’s Miracle Network with Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, was a staple supporter of Rush for a Cause, The Brian Muha Foundation, The Northeast Ohio Foundation for Patriotism or “NEOPAT”, The Greater Cleveland Food Bank, and numerous “Adopt a Family” programs over the holiday seasons. He forever believed in kindness and the transformative power of love.
Family will receive friends at ST. BASIL THE GREAT CATHOLIC CHURCH, 8700 BRECKSVILLE RD., BRECKSVILLE, OH 44141 on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 2-8 p.m. where Ron's Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, December 15, 2017 at 10 a.m. (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH). A private family interment will take place at a later date at Brecksville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions to The Ron Ganim Family Memorial Foundation, 6630 Harris Rd., Broadview Heights, OH 44147 or at any Key Bank Branch in Ron's memory would be appreciated.
